SUMMARY
Aim: The aim of this study was estimate the economic loss generated in Teotitlán de Flores Magón Oaxaca´s community by irrational use of medicines; there has identified private homes as a major generation sources expired drugs, and also they has under guard a lot of valid medicine.
Methodology: A campaign of collection of expired drugs and was kept in force for a period of 7 months in coordination with community health centers; the drugs was classified based on the Anatomic, Therapeutic and Chemicalcode (ATC), identifying the main wasted medicated groups and the price of each item traded.
Results: Was recovered a total of 90 kilograms of drugs, classified in 65 medicated groups; the five most important groups of drug recovered generated a monetary loss amounting to $35,471.96 pesos.
Conclusion: The biggest loss of antibiotic drug was followed by, not steroid anti-inflammatory, anti-hypertensive, steroid anti-inflammatory and analgesics. We find that the inappropriate use of drugs effecting the population of Teotitlán de Flores Magón Oaxaca, generated economic losses of considerable importance, although only 91 medicines was quoted of a total of 292 pieces collected
