SUMMARY
Objective: To identify photosensitive drugs included in the Hospital Intermutual de Levante (HIL) pharmacotherapeutic guide, and to develop a standardized measures to be applied in every case, preserving them as well as guaranteeing their effectiveness and safety.
Methods: Technical data sheets were analyzed and information was requested from the lab distributor or provider and other secondary and tertiary sources. Tables were made according to administration method and alphabetical order. These tables include information on the drug, type of primary packaging, laboratory, light protection guidelines, observations, and bibliography.
Results: Drugs included in the hospital GFT that they were reviewed: 734, 225 of them (30.7%) contained photosensitive substances. We were not found data in 165 drugs (22.5%); for this reason, they were included in the group of photosensitive. Drugs analyzed that they not contain photosensitive substances: 344 (46.8%).
Conclusions: Nowadays, it is not mandatory to specify the necessity of special conservation measures in a technical data sheet. However, periodic reviews must be performed in order to keep updated information available and guarantee proper conservation, storage, distribution, conditioning, and sure administration of drugs.
Key Words: Photosensitive, stability, drug, review, light.
