Summary
Thrombocytopenia is a complication that occurs in 9.2% of patients with HIV, increasing up to 21.2% in patients with AIDS. We report the case of a patient with HIV-associated thrombocytopenia (HIV-TP) with severe thrombocytopenia refractory to treatment with corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and eltrombopag, which was successfully treated with romiplostim, avoiding a more aggressive treatment such as splenectomy.
