SUMMARY
Objective: To evaluate the suitability and the use in prescriptions of linezolid and daptomycin in a general hospital.
Method: Descriptive and retrospective observational study to the prescription of linezolid and daptomycin over a period of 18 months.
Results: 170 patients were analysed, 116 (68.2%) who are treated with linezolid and 54 (31.8%) treated with daptomycin.
The most prescriber clinical services were Haematology and Intensive Care Unit for linezolid. The most prevalent indications were nosocomial pneumonia associated to mechanical ventilation
Surgery and Internal Medicine were the most prescriber Services and the most prevalent indications were bacteraemia associated to skin and soft tissue infection respectively for daptomycin.
These treatments were mainly empirics with an average duration of 11 days (±3.5 days), linezolid and 12 days (±6.5 days) for daptomiycin. 2.6% of the patients with linezolid used it off-label indications.
Conclusions: Linezolid and daptomycin are used in general in an optimal manner in our environment. Nevertheless, a close monitoring of these drugs allows rectifying any mistake in their use and raising the efficiency.
